Alan Jaras and Livvy Fink

Alan Jaras

A photographer inspired by the interactions of light with materials and surfaces. A research scientist/microscopist by day- he uses optical and lighting techniques to gain a better understanding of materials. He is currently exploring the world of caustics- the patterns formed when a beam of light travels through transparent, textured materials.

All of his photographs- or Refractographs- are made using entirely analogue techniques and are completely unedited in anyway.

Working to allow glass volume to be something we look at rather then through by taking impressions of hot glass forms and capturing them within cold glass objects. Through this enabling the discovery of an unfamiliar space.
