First Marble Failures

My first tests came out of the kiln yesterday morning and whilst I would count them as failures (they look nothing like marble at all) I'm not hugely disappointed by them. I suppose because I feel like I've learned something?

Apologies for the hideous photo.
You can't really see it too well in this photograph but the white is just too shiny and clear, I want a more milky look. Also the colours didn't go as faint and feather as I had expected. I didn't really realise how far the black would go.

Apparently not reactive. Oh.
As it turns out the copper blue isn't actually reactive. Or maybe it is but just not with the ivory I used. I quite like the speckly one though but just because I like the colour.

However we met with Alison Kinnaird again today and she mentioned maybe using the disks to practice engraving on as they're an ideal size. So whilst they're not what I wanted it's nice to know that they will come in moderately handy, and hopefully my next tests look a bit more like what they're meant to look like.
