I've spent my weekend having more Rhino super fun times, plotting out geometric patterns for the glass disk. The reason I have decided to do them on Rhino instead of drawing them out by hand is because I want them to be really precise.
My idea is (back to The Plan) to get the patterns vinyl cut in reprographics and to stick them on the glass. Then I can sandblast the glass and get an accurate design. This will then be filled with frit to make an inlay.
I was also considering fusing two disks together so the pattern was kind of double sided. I think this would make for a really interesting projection.

The Flower of Life
The first pattern I was looking at is The Flower of Life. It is often linked with religion and creation and various other pieces of sacred geometry. In hindsight though this would be a total nightmare to do as every little petal shape is separate and there isn't one larger piece which is an anchor to the pattern. I still want/need to just go for it though as it fits in really well with my second (and favourite pattern)...

Metatron's Cube (simplified)
Yes, this is a simplified version of the actual pattern but it was starting to get really busy and I don't want to just have a big mess in the end. This fits over the flower of life perfectly- when they're in the right proportion to each other. I think these would work perfectly as a pair fused back to back.
As well as finding the shapes intriguing I also love the origins of Metatron's cube. It is named after Metatron, an angel who is mentioned in apocryphal texts (a collection of ancient books found in some editions of the Bible, inbetween the Old and New Testaments). These texts rank Metatron close to the top of the spiritual hierarchy, second only to God.

Not really anything, actually.
I think conceptually this pattern would work best, as it is just a random geometric pattern that I drew out which to me fits more with the idea of form constants then The Flower of Life and Metaron's cube do. But then it does just look a bit like it should be on a tee shirt and on sale in Topshop. It doesn't really look as natural as Metatron's cube (obviously it's not a flower but you know what I mean). I also prefer how the cube feels a bit sinister (again maybe this is just me) and I am really trying to go for that foreboding atmosphere.
So confused!
