Marble Madness

The material I have chosen to recreate is... MARBLE! (I feel the title of this blog only slightly ruined the surprise.)

Originally I was thinking about bone which got me onto researching bone china, porcelain and then eventually I arrived where I am now. I'm going to be looking at white marble specifically as I'm interested in how to get the really subtle colour changes in the grey feather details. And honestly I didn't even know you could get all these crazy colours until last night. So once again I'm going to be weighing out tiny amounts of glass and hoovering like a crazy lady! It will also be interesting to play around with the surface texture to try to get a realistic waxy look.

I'm going to be concentrating on surface and pretty much ignoring the whole form side of things for this. My test pieces are all just going to be small tiles and then the final object theoretically will be a larger tile- marble does come in tiles though, so hey it's not all bad. Hopefully looking at the tiles chronologically you will be able to see the progression and they will get better and better, and I will be a glass/marble master.. Or not.

Marble, roll out!
