So I was a bit of an idiot and basically entirely forgot that tests were a thing. Woops! I think I just got a little bit excited about the whole projection thing and forgot that I would actually need something to project.
Anyways! I've now cut myself hundreds (ish) of little test panels which I can use to actually work out this whole sandblasting/kiln business/projection thing. They're pretty nifty.
I've been trying out different times of sandblasting and so far I think about 6-7 minutes is working out to be the best. But even though I have been timing them they haven't always been coming out looking the same. I think the way forward with this is something along the lines of acid etching which would remove all of my human errors.

Apologies for the cropping catastrophe.. |
This set all have frit packed into the grooves left from the sandblasting. The top two have been sandwiched (sandblasted glass, frit, glass) and the bottom two are just doubled up (glass, sandblasted glass, frit). I was hoping to trap little bubbles around the frit pattern. Shocking, I know! I really like the bubbles though and I think in the right places they can be really effective in fused glass. Unfortunately though the bubbles I ended up with are much too big and much too small. I have some sneaky suspicions as to why this is, fingers crossed next time it'll all look a bit more attractive!
