Amanda Simmons: Working With Colour

Amanda came back in to work with us today but this time in a more practical way. We ended up doing an introduction into her way of working with colour. It was very interesting but also a bit scary- as you all know I am not a huge fan of colour being used in my own work.

Firstly we all had to chose an image from a book and use this to pick out as many colors as we felt comfortable with.
Basquiat, 1982. Untitled (Tar and Feathers)
When I first seen this image in the book I thought it was two separate pieces and chose only to look at the bottom one. I really like how it's so dark but then the little hints of yellow just lift it slightly.

My colour selection. See, I'm not scared..
I picked out a black and gray as my main colours- obviously- and then chose a bright yellow to complement it. The green is more of a side note, I just got a bit excited and apparently I quite like lime green (I blame the Transitions project).

It was a very quick way of picking out a colour palette and I think it's going to be pretty useful as I normally have absolutely no idea how to go about this.
